GETTING BACK IN TO COMPETATIVE PLAY - TESTING FOR STANDARD PTQ

So as some of you may know I have been of for a while and came back to play in the Fanboy3 Modern PTQ, playing 3 colour burn and did a 4-4 record. I thought it was not a bad finish considering the time away and not much testing was done.

Now on to a new season and am looking forward to it as its my favorite formats by far. So the deck am playing/testing is a combo deck here is the list for reference.

Creatures (3)
3 Thragtusk

Planeswalkers (6)
1 Garruk, Primal Hunter
2 Jace, Architect of Thought
1 Nicol Bolas, Planeswalker
1 Tamiyo, the Moon Sage
1 Vraska the Unseen
Lands (27)

2 Alchemist's Refuge
1 Blood Crypt
4 Breeding Pool
3 Glacial Fortress
1 Godless Shrine
2 Hallowed Fountain
3 Hinterland Harbor
1 Overgrown Tomb
1 Steam Vents
1 Stomping Ground
2 Sunpetal Grove
4 Temple Garden
1 Watery Grave
1 Woodland Cemetery

Spells (24)
1 Chromatic Lantern
1 Door To Nothingness
3 Omniscience
4 Farseek
2 Increasing Ambition
4 Supreme Verdict
1 Temporal Mastery
4 Unexpected Results
4 Urban Evolution

Sideboard
2 Witchbane Orb
1 Elderscale Wurm
1 Laboratory Maniac
1 Detention Sphere
1 Abrupt Decay
1 Memory's Journey
1 Think Twice
1 Merciless Eviction
4 Rolling Temblor
1 Unburial Rites
1 Wit's End

The deck has some good and bad match ups as do most decks but that's how Magic goes right.

So testing has gone pretty well flipping and Plainswalker with Unexpected Results is game breaking, here are the results so far.

UWR Flash

This can be one of the worst match ups but things get easier with Alchemist's Refuge EOT a spell forcing them to counter one of your spells so that you can cast a spell during your main is pretty sweet. With 4 Supreme Verdict in the main will keep those Boros Reckoner bay. On to sideboard.

-2 Unexpected Results -1 Omniscience

+1 Detention Sphere +1 Abrupt Decay +1 Elderscale Wurm

I think this is right although I may be wrong so am happy to take any information and other options that anyone has.

Aggro decks (Naya Blitz, Mono Red and Grull Aggro)

These are the worst match ups for the deck as they are fast, the idea is to just wrath the board and keep doing it, after side it gets easier as we go up to a possible 9 wraths.

-1 Nicol Bolas, Planeswalker -1Garruk, Primal Hunter -1 Vraska the Unseen -1 Omniscience

+4 Rolling Temblor

I think this is the best way to get value, the idea is to side out the big spells, the more wraths the better when vs aggro decks

JUND

Now this deck sees a lot/some play in my local meta (am looking at you rich). I would recomend not playing your Chromatic Lantern wide open with out a win or you can just be blown out buy a Abrupt Decay, and it becomes a lot harder to win and will take longer. Now the side is pretty hard vs JUND. Am not fully upto scratch i what to side in or out so if it wrong am sorry and i will take a notes.

-1 Omniscience -1 Urban Evolution

+ 1 Abrupt Decay +1 Detention Sphere

I think this is right but like i said am not 100% sure.

SOMETHING FOR THE LEGACY PLAYER

This card is soooo close to be coming Waste Land/Strip Mine in Standard.

End of Legacy chat.......
